Another specialized lens that is popular for underwater use with housed cameras is the zoom. Such lenses have the advantage of allowing you to crop in without moving camera position, simultaneously altering perspectiveAttribute of lens focal length that determines the apparent relationship between foreground and background i.e. compresses or exaggerates it. Many zoom lenses also are of auto-focusing variety.

Zooms are optically inferior to fixed focal length lenses however and I believe counter productive at times. It is better to commit to wide angle or macroPhotography of smaller subjects shot (between 1:1 and 1:3) on macro settings or with macro equipment and concentrate on the subject for your lens. However, I will concede that whale sharks appear when you have macro lenses on!
