It can be frustrating waiting for images to be transferred from your digital camera to your computer. Transfer technology is therefore important. There are a number of technologies employed.

Infrared IEEE 1394 - a standard for high-speed serial devices. An infrared port on a computer can communicate with other devices without cables.

RS232 Early digital cameras used RS232 (serial) connections for transferring data to external devices (PC’s)
