Keywords are essential for finding images.
Stock photography libraries often strip out keywords from IPTC fields and enter
them into their database. Adobe Bridge does something similar in that you can search
your images across your entire hard drive by keyword, which is an incredibly efficient
way of locating an image without having to look at it. It is therefore important
to get your keywording correct the first time.
When keywording try not to use too many words and try to be extremely succinct about
the words that you do use.
Adobe Bridge keeps a dictionary of all the words that you have previously used so
that you can whistle them up later. I do not find this terrifically helpful as it soon becomes to big to be usable. Anyway, you
usually submit as many different images as you possibly can to
optimize
your revenue with stock libraries and therefore you really don’t want to be
re-using keywords.
