Unlike stills cameras, video cameras can have three chips. Three-CCD cameras have three separate charge-coupled devices (CCD's), each one taking a separate measurement of red, green, and blue light. Light coming into the lens is split by a prism assembly, which directs the appropriate wavelength ranges of light to their respective CCD's. Despite the chips being usually smaller three-CCD cameras are generally regarded to provide superior image quality to cameras with only one CCD. They are therefore favoured by the pros’.
Which brings us to the question ‘what do I need to get my footage broadcast’? Whether, or not, footage is Broadcast Quality depends on the broadcaster! As such Broadcast quality is an ambiguous term.
