Smaller subjects typically 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5cm) shot on macro settings or with macro equipment that are in MID WATER not touching anything (i.e. between 1:1 and 1:3)

A Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis)
Pelagic octopus, currently unidentified, but I believe it's a male Tremoctopus. Taken at night in the abyss, 3 miles off the Kona coast in Hawaii. Water depth below us was probably 6000 feet deep. It's holding two cnidarian tentacles for defense.

Night dive at Magic Pier, Buton, South Sulawesi. The colorful Rigid Shrimpfish were continually in our lense while we attempted to photograph the elusive Mandarin Dragonet.

Octopus swimming from one coral head to another. He stopped to check me out and I got lucky. This shot was taken at Honokawai Beach, Maui.HI.

This green sea turtle became interested in my yellow camera housing and came over for a portrait.
Very rare two-ring blue-ring octopus. Seen only in Malaysia until now. This is a rare one, even for the Lembeh Straits. Second most deadly creature in any ocean.

Juvenile Boxfish. This little guy was hiding under a ledge on the reef. It was a tough trying to frame the shot with the bulky DSLR rig.
