"Earth"
I've been experimenting with wide apertures when shooting my macro images lately. Here, I focused on this spotted cleaner shrimp's eye, letting everything else in front and behind blur.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Flight" - When I photographed this Spanish hogfish I went for an artistic look: I used a slow shutter speed and waited until the fish was racing over of a field of jagged lettuce leaf coral to provide background texture.
"Dynamic" - This Caribbean reef squid was photographed during the day with a high shutter speed and small aperture.
"Solar System"
This translucent winged comb jelly was photographed during the day with a high shutter speed and small aperture.
I set my strobes in position to light just the front of this very long tube sponge. All of the sudden, this graysby swam up from the far back of the tube and checked me out, then just as quickly disappeared back down into deep recesses of the sponge.
Juvenile Boxfish. This boxfish was bobbing and around coral and sponges, but nothing that was an attractive background. So I dialed up my aperture to f/3.2 to make a soft background.
Battle Scars
shortlistedShortlisted!
A diver models for me inside the Prince Albert shipwreck in Roatan, Honduras. I attached a strobe to the back of her tank and had her hold a Triggerfish sensor to make the strobe fire behind her, lighting up the background.
This seahorse was clinging to sealife as I prepared to photograph it. I had just gotten in position when the seahorse started free swimming and I was able to get this shot.
Tiny cryptic teardrop crab just inside a vase sponge.
Purple Vase Sponges & Diver
Elephant ear sponge and diver, Bonaire NA.
(The sponge appearing HUGE with close focus wide angle).
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Dream Of The Stingray"
I used a slow shutter speed while panning slightly fast to achieve an artistic blur on both the background and stingray. Photographed just under the surface with the camera pointing slightly up to capture the reflection.
Racing Under The Waves
"Colorful Frame"
The wreck of the Doc Polson provides a colorful frame to view the dive boat above.
"The Octopus and The Diver"
Wreck of the Doc Polson.
If you look closely, you can see divers exploring the wreck.

A diver photographs a school of tarpon on the East End of Grand Cayman.
"Inside Looking Out"
Doc Polson shipwreck, Grand Cayman
I purposely used my fisheye lens with an extension ring on the dome for forced vingetting.
Runner Up - worthy of note but not a medal winner - an equal 4th place if you like! Runner Up 2015
