Peoples' Vote

2024 has been the year of the bait ball in Bonaire. This tired turtle is looking for a place to rest, oblivious of the cyclone of big eye scan just meters away. Shot with a Nikon Z8/Nauticam housing/INON z330 strobes.

"Squid In The Sky #1"
Two squid at the surface with the sky and clouds above them.
I spent 1 1/2 hrs with them until they warmed up to me enough so I could photograph beneath them with the sky and clouds above.

"Sunrise Water With Stingray"
A stingray swims below waves at sunrise. The pinks and oranges of sunrise lit-water sheet off my dome port while a stingray swims beneath the waves.

Stingray Crash
"Flying"
A Spotted Eagle Ray over a sandy bottom.
"Turtle Wave"
By getting out in front of a turtle you give it the choice to either swim around you or simply just keep swimming. I find calm breathing and nice subtle movements encourage great encounters.
"High Low'
The always graceful movements of Southern Stingrays are awesome to watch, experience, and photograph.
"Loggerhead Youngster"
This is by far the smallest Loggerhead Turtle I have encountered while diving. That being said he still probably had a fin span of around 4 1/2 ft. meaning he wasn't actually that small.
The Wreck & the Jacks
Face Off
"Colorful Corner"
This is an out cropping on the dive site, Orange Canyon. When we find ourselves here with a slight current there is a clear boost in the amount of fish taking the opportunity to feed in the near water moving past.
Kittiwake
"School N Scatter"
I love finding schools of jacks in shallow water. Combining the texture on the surface, and using all the ambient light always bring together some pleasing images.
"Making the Rounds"
Just on the edge of the sandbar where it starts getting deeper their seems to be a Stingray super highway. Making their rounds until the come up into the shallows again.
Bloody Bay, Canon G16
Sea Turtle Reflection
"Framed"
A flamingo tongue cowrie framed by the branches of a gorgonian. I pushed myself to create a unique photograph: lined up the cowrie thru the branches, positioned my strobes for backlight & used high shutter speed to black the background.
"Treasured Conditions"
Looking up from 120 ft. at Ghost Mountain and it was as crystal clear as I ever seen the water here. The diver is at about 15ft enjoying some of the best conditions I have ever experienced during February.
I've been developing a lighting technique, and I thought the mermaid statue at Sunset House would be a perfect subject to employ it. I'm pleased with the result 😀 No Photoshop.
Blenny missing a few cirri
Big Daddy of the Reef
"Latticework"
A juvenile trumpetfish is backlit as it hides in a gorgonian. I carefully placed my strobes to achieve this effect.
"Ascension"
A green sea turtle ascends into sunbeams in late evening light.
"Fin to Fin Traffic"
Horse Eyed Jacks playing follow the leader around the reef.
"Documentation"
It's nice to interact with other photographers underwater. Creating nice "behind the scenes" type photos. Behind every image their is a photographer.
"Vibrant"
A beautifully colored scene down the wall and the anemone right out in the open allowing me to get super close for composition.
"Hermit Crab In Slow Motion"
Ambient light and a slow shutter speed blurs the background, while strobe light freezes a hermit crab sitting on the edge of a purple vase sponge.
