2024 has been the year of the bait ball in Bonaire.  This tired turtle is looking for a place to rest, oblivious of the cyclone of big eye scan just meters away.  Shot with a Nikon Z8/Nauticam housing/INON z330 strobes.

The appendages which house the feeding tentacles for the siphonphore, Rosacea cymbiformis, are called Cormidiums. With the feeding tentacles retracted here, the Cormidiums resemble tiny underwater lanterns.

This was photographed off of Catalina island in the Pacific Ocean near Los Angeles. The only retouching was to remove backscatter.
