2024 has been the year of the bait ball in Bonaire. This tired turtle is looking for a place to rest, oblivious of the cyclone of big eye scan just meters away. Shot with a Nikon Z8/Nauticam housing/INON z330 strobes.

"Glow"
I noticed the interesting color of this sponge and new I wanted a shot. I was able to isolate my strobes onto just that sponge and the glowing sun behind the coral head gives this a very dramatic feel.
"Sand Driftin"
I love the separation the sand gives the Shark. They blend in so well with the reef, so I was very excited to see her cruise over this sand patch.
"Slug Train"
These Leech Headshield Slugs were playing a nice game of follow the leader.
"The Arrow"
A Red Lined Arrow Crab resting in a bunch of Whip Corals.
CheeseBurger Reef White-Speckled Nudibranch Shot with nikon 105mm on a D50
Caribbean Reef Squid
This is the actual color! The squid was changing color as it swam forward and back, checking me out. It was moving up and down through the water column as well, enabling me to get this angle.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Arrow Eye"
A very hard subject to photograph. The size of a normal Blenny, but spends all of it's time free swimming.
"Curl"
An Arrow Blenny with a green algae background.
"Spread Your Wings"
A Large Triple Fin Blenny resting on a sponge.
"Red Cling"
A Red Cling Fish doing what it does best. Latched on to a Gorgonian Branch.
"Glowing"
A close up of a Roughhead Blenny.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Colorful Moments"
A large Triple Fin Blenny. I generally see these guys on Brain Coral so it was nice to find one on a different back drop.
Blossom buddies
Mr Grumpy!
"Face to Back"
A French Angel Fish portrait with a French Angel Fish background.
A super clear day at Starfish Point.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Glowing radiantly
"Ruffles"
A Lettuce Sea Slug on a Rope Sponge.
"Out in the Open"
A Gaudy Clown Crab poses out in the open on a Purple Vase Sponge. Generally I find this guys tucked away into a hole in the coral/sponge, but it is always a treat to find one out and about.

Editor's Comment
Beautiful colors and separation.
"Curious"
These aren't always the most cooperative subjects. After taking a couple of shots with just the 100mm, I decided to try the +10 Diopter. Luckily this guys was holding his ground and let me get extremely close.
"The Queen"
The colors of the Queen Angel Fish are so vibrant. It isn't very often they will allow you to get close enough for a face on portrait. I think the Turtle eating right beside this one gave it a reason to stick around.
"Wrapped Up"
A tiny Brittle Star tightly wrapped around a Gorgonian.
"Into the Stars"
One of the prettiest eyed fish around.
Fluorescence! This is so exciting! Using Nightsea filters to photograph, I discovered that the eyes of a banded coral shrimp fluoresce a vibrant green. I used a small aperture to focus only on the eyes. The coral it's on also fluoresced.
'Velvet Eyes' - eyes of a Velvet shrimp, a nocturnal species, around an inch long with amazing blue eyes. Shot using Oly 60mm & +15 subsee with manual focus for precision.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Roughhead blenny (Acanthemblemaria aspera)
"Babylon"
This massive deep sea pinnacle is without a doubt one of the most prestigious dive sites in Cayman. It is situated on the far North East side of the island making it a long way from anywhere. It is always a treat to descend into the depths
