~ Frenzy ~ Probably the predators which lights up a bait ball with the most energy, both visually and audibly are these Cape Gannets. Their skills see them hunting down to at least the 12-15m range.Truly an awesome spectacle to witness.

~ Be Quick ~ One of the fastest moving predators at the Sardine Run are the Cape Gannets. Watching their aerial assault from a boat is amazing. Witnessing it from within the water is simply breathtaking!

~ Shark Ball ~ There are bait balls and then there are Shark Balls, just another one of those things which makes the Sardine Run one of The natural spectacles on the planet today.

by Geo Cloete
~ Blue Vortex ~ In 2013, it was documented for the first time that a bait ball was kept trapped by the shear number of sharks present. Although a few dolphins were spotted early on, they soon left and the ball was literally wrapped by sharks.
