A monthly hotshot is an entry that was shortlisted by 2 or more judges. The monthly winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Runner Ups) are chosen from this short list by our editor (no medals, just your name in the lights for a month!). They are chosen according to the number of judges votes with some reference to the peoples votes and the editor’s choice. It is no coincidence that many of the Hotshots end up in the annual awards!
To get a chance to feature your photo in next month’s winners, enter your best underwater photo here.
The monthly winners for November have been announced. Thank you all for entering and Congratulations to the winners and runners up!

Wow what a great capture! Perfectly lighting two subjects along with a perfect sun spot is not easy! Way to go!

I started diving in 2008 and have been taking photographs underwater since 2010. I now shoot with a Nikon D7000 in a Nauticam housing with two Inon Z240 flash guns. I use a Scubacam fiber optic snoot on occasion as well. I recently upgraded from a Canon t2i in a Sea & Sea housing that I used for about a year, before that it was a Panasonic compact. I live in Guam and have traveled around SE Asia in the past couple of years. The best diving I have experienced has been in Indonesia; Raja Ampat, Lembeh, Bali, Komodo.

Runner Up:
Wide Open
I had the camera on the end of a pole for this one. After many failed attempts and near misses, everything aligned – I got the right shark, the right angle, the right camera depth, and the right timing – and I ended up with this beauty.
Editor’s Comment:
Amazing capture! Timing is everything…
In Category: Sharks | Taken in: South Africa
I started photography four years ago when I came to South Africa and instantly took a liking to it. I worked mostly with white sharks and pushed myself to get better images and to find new ways to portray the shark that wasn’t always a breach or open mouth.
