A monthly hotshot is an entry that was shortlisted by 2 or more judges. The monthly winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Runner Ups) are chosen from this short list by our editor (no medals, just your name in the lights for a month!). They are chosen according to the number of judges votes with some reference to the people’s votes and the editor’s choice. It is no coincidence that many of the Hotshots end up in the annual awards!

Luca Keller, (25)
Half German/Half Italian
At age 19 I decided to leave my home town in the Black Forest of Germany to seek underwater adventure around the world. Ever since then I have been on the path of becoming an underwater photographer & cinematographer.
No matter if I am searching for tiny ocean critters on the bottom of the seafloor, or if I am encountering some of the largest animals on our planet – every experience is shaping me and my art work.

Luis Arpa
Hello, I am Luis, a Spanish biologist with a passion for the ocean… and photography. I started diving while getting my degree, back in 2001, but it wasn’t until many years later that I decided (was able to) combine my two passions.
Now I travel the world with my partner, diving the seven seas and snapping shots of the marine life with the hope of sharing my passion with the world and rising environmental awareness at the same time.
