north wall roundabout 10.5 fisheye on a d300 no strobes
When I saw this shrimp holding its ground & posing against the sponge, I knew I had to take the photo as they are usually shy and keeps moving around to hide.
RedEyes can be seen on any night dive getting close to these guys is a fun challenge
"Trumpet Eye"
A Trumpet Fish blends in with a Gorgonian.
"In the Branches"
This Decorator Crab really blends in well with all the Gorgonian Polyps that surround him.
"Twist"
When you see the Sharks body coil up prepare to see the true speed and power of these beautiful animals. It only takes a split second for them to dart away out of sight.
"Overhead"
A Spotted Eagle Ray trusting me enough to fly right over my head. I try to let the Rays come to me, as I feel the calmer you can stay the more inclined they will be to come in for a close look.
Diver in funnel of Kittiwake wreck
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Apex"
Encounters of the Apex variety.
"Sky High"
A Spotted Eagle Ray flies overhead on the North Wall of Grand Cayman.
Soft swaying with the flow of the current.
"Puzzle Piece"
A Small Blenny lines it self up perfectly with the groove on a Brain Coral.
"Does He See Me"
This Blenny was very cooperative. I used the +10 Diopter for this shot, so was glad he trusted me enough to get the big rig right up on him for this shot.
Pygmy Atlantic octopus
"Perched"
A Squat Anemone Shrimp hanging out in an anemone.
"Purple Porch"
A Gaudy Clown Crab on a Purple Vase Sponge.
"Groovin"
A tiny Triple Fin Blenny settles in a groove of Brain Coral.
"Blue Eyes"
Orange Sided Gobe resting on a sponge. These guys are generally very timid, so being able to get so close to this one was a treat.
"Glow"
I noticed the interesting color of this sponge and new I wanted a shot. I was able to isolate my strobes onto just that sponge and the glowing sun behind the coral head gives this a very dramatic feel.
"Sand Driftin"
I love the separation the sand gives the Shark. They blend in so well with the reef, so I was very excited to see her cruise over this sand patch.
"Slug Train"
These Leech Headshield Slugs were playing a nice game of follow the leader.
"The Arrow"
A Red Lined Arrow Crab resting in a bunch of Whip Corals.
CheeseBurger Reef White-Speckled Nudibranch Shot with nikon 105mm on a D50
Caribbean Reef Squid
This is the actual color! The squid was changing color as it swam forward and back, checking me out. It was moving up and down through the water column as well, enabling me to get this angle.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Arrow Eye"
A very hard subject to photograph. The size of a normal Blenny, but spends all of it's time free swimming.
"Curl"
An Arrow Blenny with a green algae background.
