2024 has been the year of the bait ball in Bonaire. This tired turtle is looking for a place to rest, oblivious of the cyclone of big eye scan just meters away. Shot with a Nikon Z8/Nauticam housing/INON z330 strobes.

Who are you looking at? Leafy Seadragon taken off Kangaroo Island in South Australia - very interactive and interested seadragon who kept watching to see what I was doing.

It is a widely held misconception that Great White sharks only breach in South Africa. Freckles is a 4m male who is an aerial specialist attacking baits at up to 56 K's an hour to enable him to launch his entire body out of the water.
"Synchronised swimming" These two dolphins buzzed by right past me while working with KI Dolphin Watch research in early January - studying and identifying wild bottlenose dolphins in the cool temperate waters off Kangaroo Island.
Sea Lion Silhouette, Just under Rye pier on Mornington peninsula, there are a couple of Australian Fur seal pups who've made their home & show their cheeky side by taking fish and squid from the fishermen! Canon S90 w INON UFL165, 1/400 F2.2 ISO80

My Giant.
Giant Australian Cuttlefish.
Taken at Tumby Bay jetty SA.
This was taken while on a tour for Museum Victoria looking for leafy seadragons under Rapid Bay Jetty - no leafys but beautiful nonetheless!
Taken with a canon D10 compact
"Ascidian Glow"
Growing on a jetty pylon at Tumby Bay SA.
Meet Chainsaw the little 3.5m Great White. The lens make him look small but he's a feisty little bugger. Chainsaw has a huge chunk out of his head (unfortunately the other side from this pic) and really does look he's been in the wars.

I admire how intimate sam is with his subject!
Meet Bruce, the smiling 5m male great white. Bruce was one of 5 whites that circled us during the dive, making for a nerve racking ascent. Taken at 24m at the Neptune Islands, South Australia using a Nikon D700 16mm & 1.4x converter.
Runner Up - worthy of note but not a medal winner - an equal 4th place if you like! Runner Up 2011

Watching Great Whites in their natural environment (in this case down at 26 metres) is an incredible site. On this dive we had 5 GW's encircle us including this 4.5m male. Certainly made getting back to the surface interesting.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Surprise!! While sitting patiently watching a big Great White playing with some sea weed, this 4+m male GW scared the hell out of me as he snuck by for an ultra close pass. Evidently I don't taste good.
shortlistedShortlisted!
