2024 has been the year of the bait ball in Bonaire. This tired turtle is looking for a place to rest, oblivious of the cyclone of big eye scan just meters away. Shot with a Nikon Z8/Nauticam housing/INON z330 strobes.

Thuridilla hopei. Often mistaken for a nudibranch, it is a sacoglossal opisthobranch without dorsal appendages. It can only be spotted with a keen eye, on the rocky seabed a few meters deep. Rarely exceeds 2cm in length.

We often don't see them, but a thousand eyes watch us while we swim or dive with our sophisticated equipment that makes lots of bubbles. Like this friendly hermit crab which I found on a rock a few meters deep.

Flabellina has a specialized diet based on hydroid polyps. Just look for the colonies of these polyps (similar to small bushes often positioned on the tops of rocks to catch current) to find it more easily!_June 2024
