Baby humpback whale in the waters of Vava'u, Tonga. This calf was quite interactive and checked us out a number of times.
This was my first use of the Canon 550D, Tokina 10-17mm lens and the ikelite housing - without strobe.

This pot bellied seahorse (Hippocampus abdominalis) was swimming around the top of the pier on a dive recently. It was a remarkably inquisitive seahorse - this shot was taken with a Tokina 10-17mm wide angle lens.

Strong & dynamic shadows, great sunrays without a outburned sunball, good contrast and a great composition. Looks like a double exposure but it's not - No need to play with "tricks" if you know how to use your gear ;-) Impressive shot, Richard !
Crabzilla" Spider crab aggregations are here in Port Phillip Bay with masses of these guys congregating under Rye Pier. This guys crawled over my camera while I was lying on the bottom.
"Red Eyed Dragon". Leafy Seadragon taken off Kangaroo Island.

Pot Bellied seahorses are unlike other seahorses as they can travel quite large distances and are happy to swim around. This guy was swimming between the pylons under Rye Pier.
Leafy Seadragon in Profile. Taken off Kangaroo Island in South Australia as part of research project earlier this year.

"Pot Bellied Seahorse B&W". taken with a Tokina 10-17mm with a 1.4 teleconverter.

Dragon Boat.
"What a long tail you have". Pot Bellied Seahorse!
"Smooth Ray Smile". Was free diving with this beautiful creature a couple of weeks ago - incredibly inquisitive! Despite their reputation they're gentle giants - every time I dived down to take a photo it would swim over the top of me.
"Dragon in light".
Dragons in Flight. Its a very unusual situation to get two weedy seadragons in the one photo - at least its very unusual for me to do so!
"Short Tail Weedy Seadragon". This weedy seadragon has had its tail bitten off by something when it was younger but that hasn't stopped it successfully breeding - its eggs have all hatched but you can still see where they were attached.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Who are you looking at? Leafy Seadragon taken off Kangaroo Island in South Australia - very interactive and interested seadragon who kept watching to see what I was doing.

Gentle Giant - taken while free diving. Smooth Rays can grow to 4.3 meters long and 2.1 meters wide and 350 kg but are incredibly inquisitive animals. This one played with me for almost 25 minutes - and was as interactive as a puppy!
Australasian Gannet. "What are you doing down there"? Taken while on snorkel/free diving.

Catostylus mosaics - apt description as the mosaic pattern on this small jelly (common name; Blue Blubber) shows. Taken in Very murky water (less than .5 meter vis) I liked how the sun lit up this jelly like a delicately designed lamp.
"Synchronised swimming" These two dolphins buzzed by right past me while working with KI Dolphin Watch research in early January - studying and identifying wild bottlenose dolphins in the cool temperate waters off Kangaroo Island.
"For Joy" Wanted to post something that represented how thrilled I was to be awarded a bronze medal (I took this last week)!! Many, many thanks to everyone at UWP - both the judges and the critique team - its an absolute honour!

Same leafy seadragon but up close - these guys are amazing animals and so photogenic! Sorry had uploaded the wrong photo - this was the one I meant to post (i.e. not cut off)...
