There are locations in the world that are uniquely suited to one species above all others. Coral Reef has perfect conditions for the brittlestar, Ophiothrix spiculata. The foot of this rocky wall is completely covered by them. In contrast to smaller populations elsewhere in Southern California, the individuals here exhibit a variety of color schemes. Perhaps they lack a visual predator that is present at other sites. Whatever the case; this is one dive that should be at the top of every world traveler's to do list.

This very special place, called XwaYeN (pronounced shwai'yen), was established as an ecological reserve in 1980. Race Rocks Ecological Reserve protects intertidal and subtidal communities that are extremely rich as a result of the strong tidal currents in the area.

great dive site ,real nice large gorgonian fan here with lots of fish life around,nice wall dive where the odd frogfish has been found scorpion fish too in the last week of august we have found 4 really nice stonefish ,you just have to look for them ,you can also the pallette surgeon fish here which seems to be a bit of a rarity in fiji . 27 metre's max depth here ,some nice suge on top of the reef to make your way back after a nice hour long dive.
