An amazing site if you love muck diving. Truely nothing but sand and some very small pieces of rogue coral and seaweed. We saw 7 ornate ghost pipe fish, a large frog fish with eggs in its mouth, 3 seahorses, the little gobies, lots of shrimp, leaf scorpion fish, a nudi orgy.....

Togian Islands is generaly beautiful place just to be. Diving there is quite exciting even for simple snorkeling. I had one 40 m dive along the reef wall, but saw only 2 huge Napoleon fish, because it was late october. Local say that "manta season" is June, July, August..., also for other bigger creatures (sharks, rays, turtles,..). Unfortunately dynamite fishing techique is still very popular among arrogant and stupid fishermen!!!, so some places are heavily marked by demaged or already dead corals in large scale. So, if you want to see some of the local u/w beauty, you had better hurry up, or fight against local destructive fishing methods..

Muck diving! There are some small walls inthe Lembeh straits and some reefs, but mainly it's about the muck. Vast plains of black or white sand. This is the Serengeti of the underwater world. Nowhere to hide but under the sand. In this environment, it's hide, eat, look really deadly or be eaten. There are creatures here that are too weird - things you would expect from deep sea creatures or other planets. It may not be strong current adreneline diving, but you gotta camera, there's lots to photograph. I dived with NAD, which was a small resort with only beer being the only alcohol - there's no bar, but it's small, friendly and the guides are great - especially Nan. Rooms are comfy, but the roof runs along the length of all rooms, so there can be some noise. Food is buffet style and very nice. I then dived with Lembeh Resort - twice the price but rooms, food, drinks nicer. Still, diving's still the same, so depends on your budget and comfort needs. colourful deeper walls full of macro life and walls against the shore covered in invertebrate life right up to the surface. At night these walls are an explosion of colour and its the best night dive site I have ever dived
