Malaysia South China SeaSugar Wreck is a cargo boat (carrying sugar) that went down ard dec 2000. It had originaly run aground butwas refloared once the cargo had beentransfered. however the damage sustained to the hull resulted in it going down once it was under tow. It lies on it's starboard side in just 18 metres of water with the port side being at abt the 6/7 metre mark.
The lenth of the wreck is 90metres and the area in which it lies flat bare sand.
Trips to the wreck are all by speedboat from the Perhentian Islands and take about 20mins on average.
The general condition is still good and it is possible to access the cargo area through the open hatch's.
Whilst it is still important to be aware of your surroundings it is an easy wreck to dive around, approx 20m away from the hull are some flat cargo crates sprouting a lot of whip coral, harp coral and some soft coral. The hatch's ALWAYS have bamboo sharks underneath,Lionfish and Scorpionfish on top, numorous Giant puffers hanging around and they are a great place to look for Nudi's.
Because the area surrounding the wreck is just sand it has formed a good artificial reef so both around the wreck (and inside the hull) there are large schools of juvenial Yellowtail Barracuda,Onespot Snapper,Schooling Mullet. Other residents include various Porcupinefish,Giant,Mappa and Yelloweyed Puffers,Batfish,Trevalies,Pickhandle Barracuda,Lionfish,Scorpionfish to name but a few.
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the bottom for Hermitcrabs,Octopus,Nudi's and sometype of eel that we were neverable to properly identify(bit like a snake eel).
Full penetration is possible but the internal walls are decaying quite considerably and it slts out VERY easily so good line work is a must.
The wreck it's self has no corals really but is covered in shells (except the port side) and the hull is a gd place to hunt for "different" Nudi's downside is the area you need to cover.
So if you ever go to the Perhentian Islands (northeast coast peninsular Malaysia) this is a must do dive site.

IndonesiaSea pinnacle of coast of active volcano. Reasonabl current always attracts huge quantities of schooling fish plus pelagics. Whale sharks and Hammer heads have been spotted here. Also Napoleon Wrasse, huge barracuda, turtles and rays are regular visitors. All against a stunning backdrop of untouched hard corals and huge sponges. Canada PacificA colourful wall full of life on one side and a shallow kelp forest with many inhabitants on the other. As you descend you find a ledge at 50 feet, covered in white plumose anemones. This is your chance to make any needed gear adjustments before descending over what seems to be a bottomless wall. Pinks, reds, oranges, purples dazzle the eyes. Soft corals, sponges, anemones cover the wall and king crabs, irish lords and sea purch hide in plain sight. Barnacles feed in the current and divers can float effortlessly as the current takes you gently to the end of the island. When you round the end you enter a shallow kelp forest, home to many different fish, including the elusive rock greenling. What a dive!

Philippines Visayan SeaMonad Shoal is about a 15-20 minute boat ride from Malapascua Island. Malapascua Island is found off the northern end of the island of Cebu in the Philippines. It is accessed by ferry from the town of Maya. Monad Shoal is one of the few areas where you can routinely sight Thresher Sharks. It's not a 100% and there can be dry spells. I sighted Threshers in 3 out of 4 dives when made at the right time of day. In late October, early November, that means being in the water around 6 AM. I made a couple of dives later in the morning. No Threshers, but did see a nice octopus on one dive and some nice nudibranchs including a Neon Slug on the other. I made two afternoon dives there. On the first we had a nice Manta Ray sighting. It swooped in over us and just kept circling out and back in. My buddy with the video camera got 18 minutes of footage! On the other afternoon dive I made we didn't see Manta's that day, but I did see a couple of nice stonefish. It's in an exposed are and there can be a current, so something to be aware of. Visibility on a good day can be 60 ft+.... the average is closer to 30 ft. Lots of small fish life... cleaner wrasse, some anemone's and clownfish, saw some nice size batfish on one dive. All in all definitely worth the trip!

PortugalAwsome. It´s a seamount near Island of Santa Maria, Azores. It´s called Dollabarat because of the first boat to study it.

United StatesThis is one of the great dive sites in the Gulf of Mexico. The 900' long air craft carrier is a monster and has something for everyone. The island is just 65' below the surface and stops at the flight deck 135' down. This is where the bulk of the diving takes place, but for the tech divers out there this wreck is a playground and a half that you can have almost all to youself. You don't have to take my word for it go online and contact any of the shops in Pensacola, Fl. ( I suggest MBT Divers 850 455 7702 or
website )they all agree this is THE GREAT CARRIER REEF.

Philippines Sulu and Sulawesi SeasWe stayed at Dive 7000, a small family-run "resort" with adequate air-conditioned rooms and good food. The diving is world-class literally right off the steps of the resort but you can go out on a banka each day to many of the other fabulous dive sites. Don't expect to see big critters here. Concentrate on the 2500 species of reef fish, the beautiful coral, multitude of nudibranches and other invertebrates. Excellent for Macro photography. I've been diving around the world for 29 years and this is the best! You will see more in one dive here than you see in an entire week somewhere else. Frog fish in every color, large and small, leaf fish, ghost pipe fish in at least 4 varieties, seahorses (one curled it's tail around my outstretched finger!), mandarin fish, flamboyant cuttlefish, dragonetes. Half the time I have to photograph something and look it up later. Many of my photos contain surprises when I see them on the computer like a small shrimp in bubble coral or a ghost pipefish in a crinoid that I hadn't noticed when I took the photo.
I'm convinced that this is the best kept dive secret there is! Spectacular night diving.
Three hours drive south of Manila. The resort can send a driver for you. Best part, besides it being very reasonably priced? They do everything for you. Come out of the water and strip off your gear and it will magically appear all dry and laid out for your dive the next morning! I like that. Actually there are two "best parts." There were NO mosquitoes at all, which is why I usually do live-aboards instead of land-based dive sites. Best time to go--the dry season March-June. Water temp is about 81-82. I was too hot in a 3.2 mil wetsuit and was much more comfortable when I dived in a skin and a very thin shortie.
After Anilau we flew to Dumaguete to dive Bahura and Apo Island from the Bahura Resort, more upscale rooms and food but they don't rinse your wetsuit for you. The diving is just a spectacular there but night diving is not allowed unless you get permission from the Mayor. We did get permission for one fabulous dive. Water temp 82-84.
Next trip will be to Tubbataha on an Explorer Boat but I'd love to stop by Bahura Resort and Dive 7000 in Anilau again if I have the time.
