Maldives Indian OceanLike all the reefs on Baros, Banana Reef provides a reasonable amount of macro life (although it can sometimes be hard to find).Banana Reef lies on the eastern side of the North Male’ Atoll, inside the barrier reef. Nearby islands include Fullmoon Island, Farukolhu Fushi and Kurumba. This reef, with its elongated form, which is reminiscent of a banana in shape, stretches from northeast to south over a length of some 300 metres (1000 feet).

Netherlands Antilles Caribbean SeaThe east point of Curacao can only be reached by boat, and because of this the reefs are in excellent condition. As the tip of "East Point" is exposed to the open sea and prevailing winds the current can be quite strong, which is perfect for drift diving. Also due to these stronger currents the animals found here tend to be larger than those seen on the south coast of Curacao.
To reach the best dive spots takes about 1.5 hrs. in a boat from "Spanish Water" on the south coast. Currently the only operator making these trips on a regular basis is "Dive Charter Curacao", who also do trips to the "North Shore" and "West Point", for more information go to

Croatia Adriatic SeaOn the map it is not to see a little insel Skoljic where sank this cargo steamship (Austro-Hungarian Navy). It sank on February 12, 1917. It is 60m long and situated on 35m of depth. This dive is recommended for advanced divers and one special peculiarity of this dive are the remains of amphoras located in direct proximity of the ship’s stern.

New Zealand PacificSite consists of a series of underwater pinnacles in a line at right angles to the island, each one progressively deeper than the next. They are covered in kelp and have lots of large fallen rocks around them. A perfect place for groups of Red Crayfish to live. On top of the rocks, we found the usual Nudibranchs, Triplefins and Blennies. Swimming in and around the kelp, are the occasional, Stingray, Snapper, Orange Wrasse and Sandager's Wrasse. At the top and close to the island there is a small undersea cave/arch, but it's very shallow, only 3 to 4 metres deep. The light here is good and the schools of Maomao make some nice scenic shots. Sea Temp 19c (Jan 2008)

New Zealand PacificOne of the most spectacular dive sites in the Poor Knights, with a huge 8m wide arch in a promontory wall. Currents through the arch can be very strong so caution needs to be exercised here, especially as the arch is 40m deep. Wall is covered in colourful sponges and bryozoans, interspersed with yellow zoanthids, solitary hard corals, common and jewel anemones. The arch is noted for the large groups of Short-tailed Stingrays that gather in and around it. There are also large schools of Kingfish, Maomao, Butterfly Perch and Demoiselles. Perhaps you may also see a Giant Manta, as we did. Sea Temp 19c (Jan 2008)

New Zealand PacificDive site is a large underwater pinnacle, starting at 6m depth and falling to 30m. The boat anchors on the top of the pinnacle and you descend to the bottom of the rock and work your way back up to the top in a spiral. Since the rock is away from the main island, the light has made it possible for more kelp to grow on it. Small shoals of Butterfly Perch and Pink Maomao hang out in shady spots under ledges or kelp. Lots of colourful Bryozoans and Sponges cover the rocks and look wonderful in the dappled light under the kelp. Sea Temp 19c (Jan 2008)

Netherlands Antilles Caribbean SeaLovely dive site on the south coast of Curacao. Very easy water entry with a short swim to the drop off point of the first of a triple reef system. Excellent facilities including restaurant, showers, toilets, rinse tanks and equipment hire. For the non divers this is a beautiful beach on which to sunbathe and snorkel, it even has massage facilities for those who like a little pampering.
There is a small entry fee 2$, but it is well worth it, a great day out for the whole family. The only drawback is that it can get quite crowded in the weekends (and costs 3$ for entry), so try to visit during the week!
