Maldives Indian OceanLike all the reefs on Baros, Banana Reef provides a reasonable amount of macro life (although it can sometimes be hard to find).Banana Reef lies on the eastern side of the North Male’ Atoll, inside the barrier reef. Nearby islands include Fullmoon Island, Farukolhu Fushi and Kurumba. This reef, with its elongated form, which is reminiscent of a banana in shape, stretches from northeast to south over a length of some 300 metres (1000 feet).

French Polynesia PacificGreat dive site North of the Island behind the airport. Better when done as a drift dive because there could be some current. Visibility is usually great and the site is also kown as the "white valey" because of a large band of sand t 100ft, and going down very quickly. There main interest is a coral platform at 8Oft where you can sight sea turtles feading sponges, school of baracuda, tunas and some pelagic surprises as dolphins, hammer head shark, or marlin. At the end of the dive, it could be usefull to swim West close to the reef (40-60ft) and try to reach the resident school of jack fishes. Of course the main attraction of the dive site are the Grey reef sharks. The challenge is to attract them inside the school of jack fishes and enjoy the spectacle (see my pictures).
A "not to miss" if you come scubadiving at Borabora.

Netherlands Antilles Caribbean SeaThe east point of Curacao can only be reached by boat, and because of this the reefs are in excellent condition. As the tip of "East Point" is exposed to the open sea and prevailing winds the current can be quite strong, which is perfect for drift diving. Also due to these stronger currents the animals found here tend to be larger than those seen on the south coast of Curacao.
To reach the best dive spots takes about 1.5 hrs. in a boat from "Spanish Water" on the south coast. Currently the only operator making these trips on a regular basis is "Dive Charter Curacao", who also do trips to the "North Shore" and "West Point", for more information go to

Norway North SeaLurefjorden north of Bergen is home to the fantastic deep-sea jelly Periphylla periphylla, also known as crown jelly. There animals normally live on a depth of 7-800 to 7-8000 meters, but in Lurefjorden they can be found thriving in "just" 400 meters of water.
To see these amazing creatures it is necessary to dive at night in the winter (february is the best time). The dive is done in the middle ov the fjord, over deep water, as the jellies migrate vertically. The best time is a moonless night between midnight and 02:00. If you're lucky, you'll see thousands!
Every february we do a special "jelly safari" weekend with Gulen Dive Resort (www.gulendiveresort.com), the only resort in the world to offer this unique experience. Diving is for advanced/experienced divers only, as it is done in open, pitch black water several hundret feet above the bottom. It is very easy to loose track of your depth as there are no points of reference.
