Sabang Point, Puerto Galera

   Philippines  South China Sea
Current is very dependent on time of day. The diving in Puerto Galera is timed around the tides and being off a little can end up being a roller coaster ride ;) This was a really nice dive. Lots of fish, anthia's, damselfish, moray eels, parrotfish, wrasse, unicornfish, jacks, rainbow runners... the "usual suspects" I call them :) Right at the end of our dive I had my first (and I hope last) experience being chased by a nesting Titan Triggerfish! Having an almost 3 foot long fish with those kind of teeth chasing is an "interesting" experience :))

Molasses Reef, Key Largo

United States  Atlantic (North American coastal)
Green Sea Turtles can grow to reach lengths of 5 feet and live as long as 80 years. Unfortunately, their numbers are decreasing, the result of habitat destruction (nesting grounds in particular,) boat propellers, and the consumption of both their meat and eggs. This particular turtle was photographed on Molasses Reef within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary near Key Largo where I found him dining on a meal of sea grass and sponges. Canon 7D MKII, Ikelite housing, dual DS 125 Strobes

Karpata Reef, Bonaire

   Netherlands  Gulf of Venezuela
As soon as we crested the reef head at Karpata in Bonaire we encountered a group of file fish feeding on Moon Jellyfish. By swimming directly under the jellyfish and shooting towards the surface, I could photograph them with the sunlight coming through their translucent bodies, using my strobes as a key light. Ikelite housing, dual Ikelite 125 strobes, Canon 5D MKII and Canon 17-40L lens.

Molasses Reef, Key Largo, Florida

United States  Atlantic (North American coastal)
Taken in approximately 20 feet of water on Molasses Reef in Key Largo. I used a Canon 7D MKII camera in an Ikelite housing with a Canon 17-40mm (zoomed all the way) lens and dual 125 strobes. I exposed the background first, stopping down the aperture to get the darkened out effect then slowly upped my strobe power and changed their position (to avoid shine from the highly reflective animal) to get the image.

Molasses Reef, Key Largo Marine Sanctuary

United States  Atlantic (North American coastal)
The Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary. Established in 1975, the sanctuary provides protection to the continent’s only coral reef. Later, in 1989, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Protection Act was passed, designating 2800 square nautical miles of coastal waters from the Dry Tortugas all the way to the Everglades as a marine Sanctuary. Strict regulations, put in place to preserve this fragile underwater environment, prohibit the collecting or damaging of any coral.Shot in August on Molasses Reef in approximately 25 feet of water. Visibility in the 75-foot range.
