Sangalaki island

   Indonesia  Celebes Sea
Although it is expensive to stay on this tiny island it is well worth the money. The island itself is a turtle conservation island. There are more turtles than people here and you will often find turtles laying eggs in front of or under your bungalow during the night.
At sunset the turtle conservation people will release baby turtles back into the sea and when you go diving there's a good chance of seeing turtles mating at the surface.
This island is well known for its manta rays, but there are many other rays too such as blue spotted maskrays, cowtail rays, eagle rays, marbled rays and many otheres.
We saw a few white tip sharks and leopard sharks and many many cuttlefish.
There is not much macro life, but we still found a few beautiful nudibranchs, shrimps, jawfish, hawkfish and other small fish. There are some very nice wide angle photography opportunities here.

Tulamben Bay

   Indonesia  Bali Sea
Tulamben Bay, Bali, Indonesia.
Several resorts in Tulamben, Bali, Famous for the wall/drop off and the Liberty wreck.
Approx 2 to 2.5 hrs by road from Denpasar airport, there are several local restaurants in Tulamben and they are inexpensive. Mimpi resort is friendly and the diving from there is well organised and right on the beach.
The beach is made up of large and small pebbles which makes walking uncomfortable and over many day's, your feet can become sore. There are porters available who carry your equipment if you dive at the wreck or the drop off.
The sea can be flat calm, and also quite rough, entry and exit over some large rocks below the surface can make things difficult, when getting in and out watch for the waves.
The bay in front of Mimpi Resort is black sand and not a lot to look at unless you are into macro, if you are then the diving is very interesting and there are lots of different and new species of Nudibranch to be found.

Bob's Reef, Grand Cayman, North Wall

   Cayman islands  Caribbean Sea
Dove this site in August with Indigo Divers. Awesome conditions. Water temperature was 85 to 87 degrees. No current. Minimum surface wave action. Visibility 100+ feet. Almost no particulate matter in the water. Chris and Kate, the dive operators, were great. They were good guides, accommodated our skill level (175 dives for parents, 30 for 16 year old) and took us to sites where my desire to photograph would be maximally served. We will be back. Now I see why the Caymans are the most dived spot in the world.

Derawan island

   Indonesia  Celebes Sea
Hard to get to and expensive to dive but well worth the effort. At the moment there are only two divecentres on the island. Diving is organised off speedboats or from shore. The reefs are nice but for me the best dives are under and in between the numerous jetties. Lots of green turtles can be found munching the seagrass and excellent macro stuff under the jetties. You can easily take some great pics while snorkling at low tide in 20-30cm of water.
Vis is generally around 15m and water temp 28C

Kakaban island

   Indonesia  Celebes Sea
This is a small island with a huge lake inside. After Palau it is the best place in the world to find non-stinging jellyfish. It is an unforgettable experience to swim without fear surrounded by jellies.
If you go there don't forget to explore the magnificent shoreline. The overhanging branches of the trees are covered in colourful sponges and some beautiful nudis can be found here.

Windmill beach-Simonstown-False bay

   South Africa  Indian Ocean
Windmill Beach,is along the False bay coast just outside Simons Town. This area is usually dived throughout the winter months and offers sheltered coves with Giant round shaped boulders sandwiching kelp and reef fish filled diving. This site because of it's sheltered location is very popular and offers safe diving to all level of divers and the only problem is the lack of parking.
The Parking area is the kit up point and its a short walk down to the beach which has entries on the left and right side of a large rock. The dive route can be done clockwise or anti-clockwise.
Out behind the rock are numerous below surface rocky outcrops which run out to sea and swimming a route around these can change the length of the dive.
There are quite a few different fish species the obvious are the Red Roman,John Brown, Hottentot,Zebra's,Streepies and Many species of klipvissies.Pajamas shark and puffadder shyshark are to be seen on most dives.Pipe fish can be seen on the sand aswell as octopus.
Seals will often join the divers briefly looking at them curiously, standing on your head or spinning in the water will often get a mimicked response.Remember regard all animals as potentially dangerous and don't touch.
The car park is fenced and the pedestrian gate is there to keep the jackass penguins from staying onto the golf course and into the neighbouring properties.
One of the only sites to have ablution facilities.
Remember as with all the sites around the Cape Peninsula A annual recreational scuba diving permit is required.

Outer Castle-False Bay-Cape Peninsula

   South Africa  Indian Ocean
All Divers meet and join there Dive boats from Miller's Point. These boat dives can be booked from any of the dozens of Dive shops in and around Cape Town.To reach Millers point you take the coastal road through Simonstown. The turnoff is signposted to the left.and immediately visible is the large tarred parking area. Here you kit up and proceed down to the slipway. All the dive boats leave from here to get one of the dozen or so frequented boat dive sites.

Outer Castle. This is the boat dive in line with the shore dive Castle Rock hence named outer Castle.
About a 15-20min boat trip form Millers. The dive starts around a large rock a couple of meters below the surface.Average depth about 15-20 meters. You can swim around the Rock or swim off along one of the rock gully's that run off shoreward and seaward.Large Gorgonian sea fans line the ridges and attached them the magnificent Basket stars.Fish follow the divers waiting for a snack, some divers feed them, but remember this is against the law.
The rock is bell shaped and a small air filled cavity exists, just big enough for two heads. Always fun to pop in with a buddy and have a chat.
Note with all dives done around the Peninsula a annual recreatinal scuba diving permit is required
