Mexico Atlantic (North American coastal)Isla de Lobos is one of the best places to dive at Golfo de Mexico however infrastructure is very limited, you can actually go camping for the weekend at the island and save the 1.5 hour ride from tamiahua everyday one of the main attractions is the oil rig Plataforma Tiburon whit 156ft deep you can find big schools of tarpoons (sabalos), barracudas and jacks (jureles) around the island there are at least 3 wrecks Mercury, salvatierra and ocean leader lots of brain coral and visibility is usually very good.

United States Atlantic (South)Wreck dives, Spiegel Grove viz was not as good as I expected, mostly 30 ft to 40 ft, USNS Vandenberg has strong currents and viz also was limited, not much marine life on the Vandenberg, it will be pristine in a couple of years when the marine life moves on it. So far all that is there are a couple of Groupers, under 100 pounds. Phillipines was a great dive site as well, Dumaghette & Puerto Galera, pristine reefs, easy diving mostly shallow dives down to 90 feet. The Carribean is the Carribean, the reefs are dying and the big animal life is hard to find, Cozumel is always great for a fast drift and tunnels and swim throughs, I stay away from cave diving. Costa Rica on the NW side of the country, Hermosa, has some big animals and the viz is poor because of the planten in the water to feed the big boys. The South Pacific has my interest, this year I went to Fla. and going to Dominica and then to Borneo for 2 weeks.

Indonesia Molucca SeaMuck diving! There are some small walls inthe Lembeh straits and some reefs, but mainly it's about the muck. Vast plains of black or white sand. This is the Serengeti of the underwater world. Nowhere to hide but under the sand. In this environment, it's hide, eat, look really deadly or be eaten. There are creatures here that are too weird - things you would expect from deep sea creatures or other planets. It may not be strong current adreneline diving, but you gotta camera, there's lots to photograph.
I dived with NAD, which was a small resort with only beer being the only alcohol - there's no bar, but it's small, friendly and the guides are great - especially Nan. Rooms are comfy, but the roof runs along the length of all rooms, so there can be some noise. Food is buffet style and very nice.
I then dived with Lembeh Resort - twice the price but rooms, food, drinks nicer. Still, diving's still the same, so depends on your budget and comfort needs. colourful deeper walls full of macro life and walls against the shore covered in invertebrate life right up to the surface. At night these walls are an explosion of colour and its the best night dive site I have ever dived

The tide current is one of the strongest in the world and there is a lot of life in this area. The water is approximately 10° celsius (50°F) all the year and the Viz better in winter.
