France Tyrrhenian SeaAfter serving in Toulon with the 7th and later 5th submarine squadrons, in 1937 Rubis was transferred to Cherbourg.
During the Norwegian campaign, in May 1940, she laid mines off the Norwegian coast; her mines claimed four Norwegian vessels in May and June, and a further three merchantmen in July. At the time of the French surrender on June 22, 1940, she was in port in the United Kingdom, where she promptly joined the Free French Forces.
Whilst minelaying off Norway in mid-1941, she encountered and torpedoed a Finnish merchantman. Later in the war, she laid mines in the Bay of Biscay, claiming three German auxiliary minesweepers, an armed trawler, and a French tug in 1942, and a fourth auxiliary minesweeper in 1943. Operating off Stavanger in September 1944, her mines claimed two auxiliary submarine chasers and two merchantmen. In October and November she continued in Norwegian waters, damaging two vessels but with no sinkings. On 21 December, however, her mines claimed three auxiliary submarine chasers, a German merchantman, and a minesweeper.
Throughout the war, Rubis made 22 operational patrols, laying nearly 683 mines and sinking some 21,000 GRT of shipping. With 22 enemy ships sunk (14 of them German, including 12 warships), she achieved the highest kill number in the FNFL.
From 1946 to 1948, she was used as a school ship for rigging in Toulon.
Rubis was struck on 4 October 1949, and sank on 31 January 1958 to be used as a sonar target. The wreck lies 41 metres underwater between Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez, and has become a popular diving attraction.

Turkey Mediterranean SeaB119 was a 23 meter military coast patrol boat, used by the turkish coastguard. It was build in 1960 in Hamburg/Germany for usage as river patrol boat but then went to Turkey where it was used as coast patrol ship by the turkish coastguard in the area of Mersin.
It "retired" after 50 years in duty in 2010 and was sinked on 25th June 2011, Time: 13.47 as a special event of the so called "Likya Festival" that happens every last week of June in the town of Kas/Turkey.
It now will be a new habitat for marine life and a new divespot for recreational diving.
The world's first underwater photo of this new wreck was token by the underwater photographer Rico Besserdich (
website ) exactly 1 minute after the ship touch the oceans ground.
"119" is resting in a depht between 10,8 to 21,6 meter. It's a easy to dive wreck, but penetrating the wreck is for certified wreck divers only. Exploring the wreck from outside is suitable to all diving levels/certifications. It is very close to the divespot named "Neptun Reef" in Kas/Antalya ( Turkey). the wreck lays on its keel. Deepest area is the stern ( 21.6 meter ), shallowest part is the bow with 10,8 meter. As the wreck lays very diagonal and not completly on the ground ( it lays on two huge rocks ), it is expected that the "119" will sly deeper during the next winter storms. If this is gonna happen, it might find it's final place in a depht between 35-50 Meter.
For any more informations needed as well as for underwater photos of this wreck, please feel free to contact Rico Besserdich via his site
website .
Dives to this place are arranged by the DiveCenter "sundiving" , see
website .

East Timor Banda SeaMilo's Reef (named after a young resident who lives in the house fringing the beach nearby) is a 75 by 11 meter shallow NW by SE facing reef set at between 5-8 meters on a sand plain adjoining a drop-off to 35 meters. The dive is overlooked as it is located just east of two of Dili's more iconic sites, namely Dili rock and Taci Tolu. The dive entry point is straight out from the Taci Tolu youth center via a sand beach (probably the best shore entry in Timor-Leste. The reef is the home to a number of macro critters and because of its relative isolation on a sand plain is a fish mecca depending on tides with the usual suspects but Dugon, Turtles, Spotted Eagle Rays, Reef Sharks and Giant Barracuda are frequently encountered. The reef is also a favourite of the Atauro Spearo community who are more than happy to be the subject of wide angle photography sessions. The dive is an ideal refresher and photography dive and you can drift the drop-off as part of the experience pausing when the sound of 'frollicking puppies' is heard as this is the sign for passing Dugon who when you are on gear will check you out from a distance. If you are snorkling - the resident Dugon - Douglas will get in your face on a good day. Subject to longshore currents on occasion but there are good exits to the east and west of the site. No one dives this site except those lucky enough to have houses on the waterfront nearby or visitors on guided trips with freeflowdivingtimorleste.com who are aware of the site and do take divers there from time to time.
