Pakistan Arabian Sea Karachi has not been on world map as far as Scuba Diving is concerned, this port city of Pakistan offers various type of scuba diving. Two major areas provide interesting opportunities to explore at Coordinate: - (24°47′46.07″ N 67°02′38.44″E) …
1 Ship wrecks
Karachi is known as a graveyard of Ships, which sank during the last 40 years and are still laying submerged beyond the Manora break water within a radius of six miles. They pose a potential threat to the visiting Vessels approaching KPT entrance buoy.
A short history of some of the ships followed: -
MV ABASIN- Pakistani flag vessel, MV Abbasin, had sunk after hitting the wreckage of a Panamanian carrier, MV Isebina, 1972. The wreckage of Isebina was removed by a foreign salvage company hired by the Government of Pakistan but the wreckage of MV Abbasin is still lying submerged four miles southeast of the Manora breakwaters.
Dynamic Venture-
27th July, 1972
Depth 8 meters
Dynamic Venture, sank in the Karachi waters in 1977 and is laying submerged northwest of the Manora breakwaters. This Panamanian ship was deliberately sunk by the crew of the vessel in protest against the non-payment of their wages by the owner. The crew was rescued by another foreign ship which also towed Dynamic Venture some distance away to her sub-aqua grave
MV Munir-
10th March, 1977
Depth 15 meters
MV Munir, belonged to a Gulf State (UAE), sunk in 1977, and is laying about a quarter mile southeast of the Manora breakwaters
MV Nanda Devi-
23rd March, 1977
Depth 14 meters
MV Nanda Devi, belonging to India, sank in 1980 and is laying 3.5 miles west of the Manora breakwaters
MV Regal Sun –
15th Oct, 1979
Depth 13 meters
MV Regal Sun, sank 2.2 miles off the Manora breakwaters when it broke in two parts and sank…
MV Dia Hatim –
27th June, 1980
Depth 15 meters
MV Dia Hatim, is laying submerged eight miles south-east of the Manora breakwaters
MV Amir- laying on her port-side opposite Himalya, but is not considered dangerous for shipping traffic, and many more interesting wrecks inviting scuba divers to explore them.
As the topography near the Karachi is mostly sandy and gentle slope, these ships wrecks have attracted marine life over the period and formed artificial reef with lots of cnidarians, crustaceans, echinoderms, mollusks, worms, invertebrates.
Tsunami 2004
As you know healthy coral reefs provide their adjacent coasts with substantially more protection from destructive tsunami waves than do unhealthy or dead reefs, a Princeton University study suggests.
The tsunami 2004.Devastated the coastlines of the Indian Ocean, but in Pakistan the effect of tsunami were quit different it brought new spawn of different new species of corals from neighboring coral reefs, the mass migrated offspring started cloning and forming new reefs at incredible speed. During last two years over 30+ new species has been noticed so far and serious effort required observing and documenting this new Eon.
This will be golden opportunity for divers of the world to peep into the history of millions of years ago and witness some of the fact about the process of evaluation.

Indonesia Timor SeaTo quote a dive guide's words: "This site is the ancestor for pelagics!"
This is a seamount in the middle of a narrow strait. First time I dived here it was a hand to hand grasp on the baren rock to get across the top of the seamount at around 12-14meters. Once you get over the northern side of the seamount it is a drop off with a ledge around 25-35 meters. During good season; april to november, the visibility is incredible; 25meters +. At first you see shadows - big shadows. And it materialized... huge dog-toothed tunas, each as big as a cow! These can number in the 30s or more. The corals are mostly short and mixed with soft corals, very colorful, but with all the pelagics around you forget it existed. Just to sum it up, big-guys I've seen here: Napoleon wrasse, eagle rays, cheveron barracudas, big-eyed trevally, giant trevally, giant grouper, black-tipped, silver tip, white tip sharks, thresher shark (this one was huge!), and ofcourse the ever-present dogged-toothed tunas. Side note: I read in a guide book about the giant grouper here, 2 meters and not a cm smaller. yah, right. Right? But guess what? I did see it. no kidding, big as an VW bug! even them grey reef sharks kindof stay away from it. However it was on its way somewhere though, didnt stay around too long.
However this site isn't for the faint of hearts. You'd first of all need a very good guide who can determine the best time to dive here, as you may wait up to 1/2 hr or more here just to wait for the current to slow down. Even while waiting you might think you're in the middle of a white-water rafting trip in a river rapid! besides that you can even see wake on the anchor line! Once it settles down (not completely, because you want to arrive in the ledge at min current) you go down the line hand-on-hand to the top of the mount and grasp the baren rock to move forward. But once you're on the ledge it's calm enough, even to move around. This site isn't like other sites where you constantly move about, more like staying put on the norther ledge which is about 30 meters long, between 20-38 meters. Watch your air-carefully as you may go deep here and you'd definitely needed the safety stop here. Obviously this site ain't for beginners. I'd suggest min experience of 100 dives or more. Another thing: having a glove helps...
Another reminder, this site is also not for those who don't listen to their guides; or for those who thinks they know everything, no matter how many dives you had. With this sort of attitude you definitely could get into trouble here. You basically dive during tide-interval, and they varies. When the tide changes, you have to get out of there, and I don't care how much air you got left. If you think you don't get your dive worth (air/time wise), suck it up on the boat! Once the current gets moving, even boats can't move forward here! (I have seen; not just once but many times, boats moving backwards here. An experience skipper would go very close to the island [kepa island] where the current subsides or move in opposite direction) not to mention a diver!!!
Alor area dive sites are excellent by any standard. Straight walls full of corals down to 50meters plus with vis up to 30M or more. But once you've been here and seen the pelagics, thats it. Its like narcotics, you just want to come here again and again. One trip me and my mates were diving here for 4 dive days I think, gues how many time we dived here? 6 times!
For those of you who like to dive here can get in touch with me: blueplanetbali@indo.ne.id. With 4 trips and about 40 dives + in this area, I can say that I know quite a bit about this area...

Australia Indian OceanShip was a salt carrier until during a cyclone in may 1988 Unladened and unable to manouver was washed onto the cliff face , despite the best efforts of the crews of both the ship and the tug boats she was wrecked and broke up. Now sitting in 10-12 meters of water it has become a haven for large cod and groupers as well as tons of other marine life. The wreck itself has broken up quite a lot over the last 5 or so years but still parts of the ship defy mother nature and remain in tact.
Diving this wreck brings its own unquie problems and barriers. The swells that crash into the coast line are at time incredible and claim the lives of fishermen every so often. Access into and out of the water is the most difficult part of this dive, it is in short a calculated jump to enter the water and a mad scramble between the crashing wave to exit. NOT FOR THE INEXPERENCED OR FAINT HEARTED. Must only be attempted in times of minimal swell.
Other problems include surge and the ever present sharks that seem to frequent the area (the famous Garths Rock is 500 meters to the south).

Italy Tyrrhenian SeaI like much this wreck and I made many dives here like a guide. History: a german ship that in its first trip to Africa was sinked by the english U- boat Safari. A torpedo hit the prow. Now the wreck is like in navigation.

Norway AtlanticTURUT is not a large commercial scuba related company, but a happy couple with a keen interest in scuba diving who can take you on a very personal vacation with a group of socially aware people!
We arrange week long scuba trips to the island Hitra several times a year. We stay in comfortable appartements at Knutshaug Fishing Resort on Dolmøy, and we run boat dives 3 times a day. One day we go onboard a larger boat for a 10 hour journey through the skerries of Mausund and Sula. Hitra offers tremendous cold water UW-fauna, excillarating drift dives through narrow sounds, wrecks, and UW-hunting usually leading to food on the table.

Croatia Mediterranean Sea
is a wall\rock dive down to 30mtrs with
Amphora to spy.
BANJA , Very rocky with lots of holes to poke about in.
The GARDA is a flat wreck and worth a good rummage and at 23 metres
SESTRICA , Lighthouse rock. A site with rocks within 2mtrs of the surface
in the middle of a channel we thought maybe we would find something, afraid not,
but lots of life.
MAJSAN , a swim down to 30mtrs to look at an anchor dumping ground
including a thirteenth century anchor, three metres tall stood upright on the
bottom
The BOCA , in 10mtrs a total awe-inspiring 28yr old huge wreck which
stands proud of the surface. It is very intact with all parts assessable
including the engine room, machine shop with lathe, cargo, spare prop, main prop
and portholes. (Don't touch). The story is that the skipper was drunk and didn't
see the shore, bang. You can see the hulls concertina shape as the bow stopped
and the stern didn't. You must visit this site.
DUBA East , Octopus reef, 25mtrs Octopus and Conger.
DUBA West , A rocky wall dive with Amphora wedged in the rocks.

United States Caribbean Sea
Unless the speed limits have been lifted it will take about 2 hours to drive
between Key West and Key Largo on US 1.
Obey the speed limits - the traffic cops have no sense of humor! If you do
get stopped - stay in the car, hands on the wheel, and wait for the patrolman to
come to you!
At Key Largo I used the Florida State operation that runs the John Pennekamp
Coral Reef State Park. They have first pick of sites inside the reserve (they
run it).
From Key Largo and south down US 1 (the highway) there seems to be a dive
operator at every lamppost, we dived with Amoray and they were good.
Most of the addresses in the Keys have a reference to 'Mile Marker' or 'mm'
on them, so you can work out how far apart they are on US
Dives to do…
The Duane
Purposely sunk Coastguard Cutter. Can have VERY strong surface currents, but
OK on the wreck. Meet Psycho, the 'pet' Barracuda.
Key West
several operators, can't remember offhand who we went with, but we were there at
New Year and it had been a little stormy, but there were a couple of half decent
reefs to dive. I understand that there are some other wrecks accessible from
here, but can't comment on them.
My opinion - do your diving round Key Largo and go down to Key West for the
fun & games on land.

Maldives Indian OceanWe went there 2 years agao and had a great time. The viz was good, but we were in March so don't know about Nov. We did meet a lot of people who were making return trips to the resort (some up to 10 times) so it must be fairly good. The currents can be strong in places, but this is also where the big pelagics hang out so is well worth the effort. The walls on the far side of the island are quite good and there are many dive sites to suit a range of experiences.
The dive centre (Pro Divers) was very good and friendly and provided nitrox at no extra cost. You could also pick up a tank and go diving on the house reef any time you wanted.
The island itself isn't huge (you can walk round it in less than an hour at a leisurely pace) and there is not a lot to do other than dive and lie on the beach. The food is good but make sure you get an all-inclusive package as the price of extras (like drinks) can be extortionate otherwise. On the way there, you may have the option of a sea plane or boat trip to get from the airport. Take the plane even if it costs a bit more as the 4-5 hour sea trip was described as being not that much fun after a 10 hours plane journey - especially if you get seasick.
I understand that they have upgraded the accomodation in the last 18 months since we were there, so whether it has changed the character of the resort - which was fairly laid back - I don't know, but I hope not.
Other than that - enjoy your trip.
