El Morro is a peninsula that is opposite the beautiful beaches of Bahia Ingles. On the way to El Morro by boat you can see penguins and seals and many other types of bird life. The dive boat Ocotopus has room for 10 guests for daytrips and 5 guests for overnight nightdiving trips. There is a good variety of fish and marine life. On shore there is a good range of acomodation right on the beach at Bahia Ingles. El Morro also features an archealogical park with whale skeletons and shark teeth up to 60mm long. Inland on the Argentine border there is the highest volcano in the world Ocho Salada, overnight camping tours are available to visit the volcano. Bahia Ingles is 5 kilometres from Caldera, there are regular flights available from the capital Santiago de Chile. Chile is a safe country to travel in and the people are friendly and helpful. Regards Robert

It's right off the beach at Punta de Tralca. It's cool green water typical of upwelling zones, so make sure to have a 6.5mm or thicker suit. Water temps in spring/summer rarely exceed 17C with 12-15 C being the norm. It's a very popular spot here with the spearfishers, so make sure not to look like a fish.

However, the diving in Chile looks excellent - the prevaling Humbolt current keeps the water pretty cold (it aint coral reef), but means the sea life should be rich. It might be well worth trying to get out to the Juan Fernández (Robinson Crusoe) Islands. Viña Del Mar and Valparaíso, both on the coast close to Santiago have dive centres, try Google searches on combinations of 'buceo' 'chile' 'Viña' 'Valparaíso' etc. A very quick starting link that seems to have some good info: click here Didn't go to the coast in Peru, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't *something* in Lima. Also, is it possible (as in are there dive centres there) to dive in Lake Titicaca in Peru ? I'm told the archeology there is very impressive and Jaques Cousteau did a few dives there. No dive centres, as far as I could find out. If you do manage to mount an expedition to get full gear, tanks, weights and a compressor up there, please do send a trip report! At 4,000 metres, it is an altitude dive beyond most deco models, so be careful! ;-)
