United States Underwater Photo Sites (23)
This is a 26 acre underwater park, that being part of a marine sanctuary has attracted probably the most marine life of any dive site in the Seattle area. There are multiple types of fish and invertebrates found throughout. On the topside are buoys that are attached to either rope trails used for navigation or attached to many of the artificial reefs used to attract the marine life that inhabit the park. The park is always changing so you never get tired of doing a few dives. Some of the Lingcod that inhabit the park are the largest in the world. The park is maintained by Bruce Higgins, who with a group of volunteer divers meet every weekend and spend time in the water making the park enjoyable for the other divers.

The windward side of Russian Gulch is a spectacular canyon dive. Structure extends above the waterline and flattens to a boulder feild at fifty feet deep. There are tunnels, overhangs and walls covered with anemonies, kelp and abalone. A large variety of sea slugs reside here. Shore access is difficult and the water is cold enough to require a drysuit for scuba. This is a dive for experienced coldwater divers.

This is arguably the most beautiful collection of reefs in all of Florida! Rather than a single site, Molasses is an extensive reef complex with diving depths from about 10 feet to more than 70. At depths ranging from 10-40 feet, Molasses Reef features high profile spur and groove coral formations. At 40-60 feet down, seaward sand chutes separate a gently sloping hard flat bottom adorned by hard and soft corals, along with a variety of sponges. The "drop-off" begins in the 50-60 foot range, and extends downward at various angles to the 70-100 foot range. Excellent drift diving can be found here. This site houses massive brain coral, star coral, and other large barrier corals. Caves and ledges provide homes for lobsters, crabs, moray eels, parrot fish, angelfish, filefish, turtles, rays, and sometimes nurse sharks. This is probably the most visited site in the Florida Keys and possibly the United States.

Located at the Illinois / Wisconsin stateline and just 5 minutes West of Interstate 90, Pearl Lake's 30 acres of clear water offers one of the finest diving and training environments in the Midwest. At first glance, you would expect to find this crystalline lake nestled somewhere in the northwoods. Instead, it is just a few minutes north of Rockford, Illinois, the state's second largest city and only a convenient hour's drive from the suburbs of Chicago. From late April through mid October, certified divers come here to enjoy a relaxing day of diving in an undemanding but interesting and enjoyable environment. They come to sharpen their skills after a time out of the water or to share an outing with family members in Pearl's park-like atmosphere. Additionally, the finest professional dive stores and instructors in the Midwest come here to initiate their students to diving at this recreational facility ideally suited to an introduction to the exciting underwater world. Although the dependably clear water (10' -40' ) and the abundant aquatic life are an attraction to instructors with students, there is something more. Pearl Lake's staff has worked hard to make the student diver's first open water experience as safe, interesting and enjoyable as possible. The same concern has seen to it that the diving professionals who train their students here can do so with minimum effort and maximum safety. A plus for divers, students and experienced alike, is the ease of entry. Unlike most quarries with limited and difficult access, Pearl offers over a dozen entry areas including several capable of accommodating a number of large groups. Additionally, training depths and interesting sites are located just a short swim offshore. In recent years, twelve training platforms have been added to keep students off the bottom and thus maximize visibility. All are located in 20' -25' depths and vary in size from 8'x 8' mesh grid structures up to a 45' flatbed trailer.
