Sugar Wreck is a cargo boat (carrying sugar) that went down ard dec 2000. It had originaly run aground butwas refloared once the cargo had beentransfered. however the damage sustained to the hull resulted in it going down once it was under tow. It lies on it's starboard side in just 18 metres of water with the port side being at abt the 6/7 metre mark. The lenth of the wreck is 90metres and the area in which it lies flat bare sand. Trips to the wreck are all by speedboat from the Perhentian Islands and take about 20mins on average. The general condition is still good and it is possible to access the cargo area through the open hatch's. Whilst it is still important to be aware of your surroundings it is an easy wreck to dive around, approx 20m away from the hull are some flat cargo crates sprouting a lot of whip coral, harp coral and some soft coral. The hatch's ALWAYS have bamboo sharks underneath,Lionfish and Scorpionfish on top, numorous Giant puffers hanging around and they are a great place to look for Nudi's. Because the area surrounding the wreck is just sand it has formed a good artificial reef so both around the wreck (and inside the hull) there are large schools of juvenial Yellowtail Barracuda,Onespot Snapper,Schooling Mullet. Other residents include various Porcupinefish,Giant,Mappa and Yelloweyed Puffers,Batfish,Trevalies,Pickhandle Barracuda,Lionfish,Scorpionfish to name but a few. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the bottom for Hermitcrabs,Octopus,Nudi's and sometype of eel that we were neverable to properly identify(bit like a snake eel). Full penetration is possible but the internal walls are decaying quite considerably and it slts out VERY easily so good line work is a must. The wreck it's self has no corals really but is covered in shells (except the port side) and the hull is a gd place to hunt for "different" Nudi's downside is the area you need to cover. So if you ever go to the Perhentian Islands (northeast coast peninsular Malaysia) this is a must do dive site.

Pulau Perhentian is a great island which is not well known by international divers or travellers. It offers great dive sites and beaches that are not crowded like Bali and Thailand. If you are wishing to go there the best budget places to stay are at Long Beach on Pulau Perhentian Kecil. If you prefer staying at more expensive hotels and resorts you can find them on Pulau Perhentian Besar. Almost everyone on the Island can speak English and they are really friendly. I would recomend to go diving with Spice Divers click here because they are the only locally owned and operated dive shop on the island, they provide the best services and are really friendly. The instructors there speak English, Malay, German, French and Italian.

Sipidan and Mabul off the coast of Borneo, Malaysia was one of the best dive locations ever. Where else can you get the big fish and macro life just 1 island away. When Sipidan had the resorts, you could literally walk out from your beach bungalow to the pristine Celebes Sea and experience white tip and Black tip sharks, loads or huge Hawsbill turtles, Humpheads, Barracuda and nearly every colorful sea life imaginable for a sunset dive.Or take the speed boat 5 minutes to the dive sites where wall dives and reefs and the open blue offer huge sharks, including scalloped hammerheads, nurse and thrasher sharks galore. Then onto Mabul which is a 15 minute boat ride away, one can see Corocodile fish, large Frog fish in a multitude of colors, Mantis shrimp, ribbon eels, huge Giant Morays, and finally a Pygmy Seahorse that was so hideen in the fan coral that you almost needed a magnifying glass to see it. So beautiful and delicate, its hard to imagine how it ever survives. The list goes on and on. Truly a Paradise for Divers!!

Hi! My name is Bryan and Im from Dcoconut Lagoon Island Resort, Malaysia. We operate a dive resort on Lang Tengah Island which is a neighboring island to Redang Island, off the East Coast of Malaysia. Lang Tengah is one of the most popular dive destinations in Malaysia. The island itself has 12 dive sites which are easy on the divers and enjoyable. Besides that, there are several spots perfect for snorkeling. If divers are interested in diving at Redang Island, it will only take a 30 minutes boat ride from Lang Tengah. Besides the fact that Dcoconut Lagoon is a dive resort, it also provides a relaxing paradise ambience for the guests. We also do offer dive courses and dive packages which can be tailored to your preference. We are looking forward to working with you. Among the facilities provided are our very own dive shop and swimming pool suitable for learning divers. For more information, visit click here The current website will be updated soon. Layang Layang is an atoll 14 square kilometres in diameter jutting 2000 metres from the Ocean depths. In 1985, the Malaysian Federal Government began reclamation works and created a 50-acre island on one part of the reef. Thus, what is ardently known to East Malaysians as "Terumbu Layang Layang" or "Swallow's Reef" has now become Layang Layang Island We had 5 days diving in Layang Layang (LL) this March. It was good and I would recommend it. The accommodation and food are fine - about 3 star UK hotel standard. The rental gear is adequate, but I would suggest if you are renting take your own extras such as a flag or DSMB, and a compass (LL is 300km offshore, has currents of about 1 knot off the ends of the island at times, and ocean swell). LL has a fleet of 9 or 10 identical dive boats, which are properly kitted out for the local conditions. Each boat holds about 10 divers. Only 2 boats were in use when we were there, because it was the start of the season and there weren't many guests. We were very impressed by the boatman - sharp-eyed and skillful. There are dive guides but you can dive on your own with a buddy if you prefer. The diving consists of big walls falling vertically to great depths, and coral plateaus. Plenty of fish including swirling shoals; sharks on most dives - we saw hammerheads, white tip reef, leopard, and grey reef sharks, often several on a dive; large marble rays, others saw manta also; exceptionally fine coral with many large fans, all in pristine condition. World-class diving, but unsuitable for beginners. The LL resort website is pretty accurate. see also.. click here You reach LL by air charter from Kota Kinabalu (KK) in Sabah. If you do go to LL, it might be worth doing a few days there and a few days in Sipadan, which is easily reached from KK.
