Maldives Underwater Photo Sites (7)
we were just starting to chill out after the 2 morning dives offf of our liveaboard dive boat in the maldives, when all of a sudden we heard the shout "whalesharkey, whalesharkey". We grabbed our mask snorkel and fins and jumped in. There were several other boats int he area and it seemed everyone had converged on this whale shark. One of the things Cathy Vhurch had taughtme was not to swim linear with marine animals, but in arcs. I separated from the pack andparalleled the whale shark, watching his pectoral fins. When I saw him dip his left pec fin I know he would be coming in my direction. I froze in the water, just barely breathing and when he approached, I was rewarded with this shot.

The biggest channel in the Rasdhoo Atoll, long reefs with hard and soft corals. Due to the hydrographic conditions, channels belong to the favorite feeding grounds of large plankton feeders. Therefor sights of mantas frequently occur on that diving spot. The equally elegant eagle rays and white-tip reef sharks can also be seen there. Moray eels, lion fish and parrot fish you find almost everywhere. The very rare ribbon eel can be observed there, mostly with just the head exposed.
