Kootenay lake had a lot of bardges hauling trains, cars equipment in the early 1900s. They were flat bardges pushed in pairs by the old paddle wheelers of that era. Ocassionaly they were lost. there is a report of three hobos( from the old days of jumping& riding trains) going down with the box cars. We have found one old shoe, and took pics, set it on top of a box car at 40'. The deepest box car sits on a steep angle from 93' back up to 46' on a ledge. Most of the box cars have thier load of coal still pouring out of them. There are 6 known box cars and 9 more left to find. There are several dive sites in this huge deep long lake including a car ferry which was in service from 1954 until 2004. It now sits at 180' to the bottom, the top is at 95'. There are boat rentals (big enough to sleep on)or services to get you out to the sites. There are also some shore dives here to be done. Low cost Motels are close by. There is a ex Navy Diver who lives n the area and hires out his boat to haul divers out. He needs some notice to plan the trip. Hit charges are good, his boat will handle 4 tech divers easily. This was a wreck that had been sunk when it was no longer useful. Sometimes we look at wrecks or their remains and it reminds us what it is like to grow old and alone.

This site is one of the most beautiful Gulf of Ste-Lawrence dive site known, very dense marine life, you cant even touch the ground, and very clear water all year long, must be drysuit experience diver the water is approx 33-35f yearlong. From 20-250++ fts completely dark after 160 fts. Enjoy

In the fjord of Saguenay that was 130 fts deep and completely dark, 34 f water and very unstable bottom, honestly this is a very hard picture to catch that clear

A colourful wall full of life on one side and a shallow kelp forest with many inhabitants on the other. As you descend you find a ledge at 50 feet, covered in white plumose anemones. This is your chance to make any needed gear adjustments before descending over what seems to be a bottomless wall. Pinks, reds, oranges, purples dazzle the eyes. Soft corals, sponges, anemones cover the wall and king crabs, irish lords and sea purch hide in plain sight. Barnacles feed in the current and divers can float effortlessly as the current takes you gently to the end of the island. When you round the end you enter a shallow kelp forest, home to many different fish, including the elusive rock greenling. What a dive!

My dive #48 and 49 Aug 6,06. I booked a guided day with Great Ocean Adventures and they did a great job of looking after me in my first dry suit dives. both were Shore entries, the one not listed above Henderson point directly off the beach and Ogden Point off a 1 km breakwater on the south side of Victoria. Water temp 11 C Air temp 22 C at both.
Henderson Point, north up the inlet, had 1 ft brightly coloured sea stars, rockfish,crabs, sole, plain fin midshipman and moon snail egg casing that was 2ft in diameter.Depth 20m 39 minutes
Ogden Point is an interesting entry and exit off the breakwater with the tide trying to rub you on or off. A quick swim through a kelp and bed and we were down drifting along the breakwater and saw a Wolf Eel, Kelp Greenling, Big (2ft) Ling Cods and Orange Cucumbers.
