Fly Point is located in Nelson Bay inside the large port of Port Stephens on the east coast of Australia. Nelson Bay is 2.5 - 3 hours drive north of Sydney. Fly point is mainly a macro dive site with over 100 different species of nudibranch have been reported here. It is in a sanctuary (no take) zone in the Port Stephens - Great Lakes Marine Park. Maximum depth is close to 30m but most of the photography subjects are in the 5 - 12m range. There is a huge sponge garden which would take many dives to explore properly. It is also the starting point for our drift dive, which exits at another divesite called the Pipeline.

From the Official Parks Victoria Website: Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary encompasses a diversity of habitats and an associated diversity of flora and fauna within a relatively small area. It is an outstanding example of a sandstone reef habitat that occurs in northern Port Phillip Bay and is also an important site for migratory and resident bird species. It is easily accessible from Melbourne and is a popular site for snorkelling, diving and education. The Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary at Beaumaris in northern Port Phillip Bay is approximately twenty kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. The Sanctuary includes nearly three kilometres of coast line and the majority of the Sanctuary is in shallow waters ( < 5 m depth).
