Mexico Underwater Photo Sites (10)
Who would have thought we would see 20 bull sharks in the space of 30 minutes within a 5 minute boat ride of the Playa del Carmen beach. There was a slight current which pushed us parallel to the beach. We started at 93 feet and slowly moved up toward the beach and were followed by the sharks up to 60 feet. After we reached 60 feet they seemed to lose interest until we got to the boat. We were quick to get out as the sharks continued to rise in the water column. without the sharks and rays that swam by the site is otherwise a nice sandy beach at depth. Reef quest who we dove with does not feed the sharks but some of the other dive shops in town do. we went out a couple of hours before the other dive shops hit the water.

When diving this site, make sure that you do have a 7 mm suit. The water does get a bit chilly. When it is your call to get in the cage, try to be first in line, so that you have the outside corner of the cage. Don't try to pet the sharks as they come by, and yes they do come by that close.

there are no dive facilities in santa rosalia. you have to bring everything yourself, and unless you bring a boat as well you have to make friends with the local fishermen and rent one of their boats to take you out. diving with humboldt squid is dangerous, so it is essential to have the right safety gear like shark suits, helmets, steel cables as dive lines and most importantly an experienced guide who has dived with these animals before!!!!!
