Silky shark heaven. Pretty reef with lots of small stuff and schools of jacks etc. However this is not the highlight of this site. This site seems to attract lots of silky sharks that come very close to divers and are very inquisitive. The night dive with the silkies is excellent. There were also reports of regular visits to this site by 2-3 large tiger sharks.

Plateau at about 25-30m with very deep drop offs to the sides. Plateau is teeming with life. Lots of corals and sponges. This site gets large schools of Barracuda, large schools of Jacks and regular sightings of grey reef sharks. If you swim to the edges of the plateau and hang in the blue you may also be rewarded with sightings of hammerheads. Then as you swim back up the plateau towards the reef you will see a shark cage at about 18m abandoned from Cousteau's time here. The reef comes up to about 5m at it's shallowest and you can see a large school of bump head parrotfish, anenomes, sweet lips etc. A truly great dive site.

Brilliant dive site with lots of interest. Don't miss the three cars in cargo hold. Try not to pick up and shake the bombs....they are all still live !! You can get great shots of the bridge by shootong down from the top....light is better than trying to shoot upwards. This is an amazing night dive. There are sleeping parrot fish everywhere, lots of clown fish, shrimp, nudis, etc. My fav night dive in the Red Sea.

We dived from the liveaboard Royal Evolution which we booked through Tony Backhurst in London. It was easier to fly to London and catch the charter flight from there than it was to make it down to Marsa Alam and Port Hurghada on our own. As a bonus, we really enjoyed our stay in London taking in the sights (and the ale). Getting back to diving, the Royal Evolution is first class, except the food was a little disappointing. However, the diving in the southern Red Sea was fantastic and uncrowded--we only saw one other dive boat. The crew made it easy to clear through Customs in Port Sudan. We stayed on board while they handled everything for us. Our diving was mosty done from RIBS and we were divided into groups of 8 or less. The crew was very helpful if anyone needed a hand with the exit.

Sanganeb (Sanganeab) Atoll is located a short distance outside Port Sudan. It was the only place we actually set foot on Sudan terrirory after clearing Customs in Port Sudan. (We stayed on the liveaboard while our crew efficiently cleared us in and out of Customs). The diving in the Sudanese waters was tremendous. The reefs are uncrowded; we only saw one other dive boat during almost 2 weeks in Sudan. The fish life is wonderful and the visibility is great. Unfortunately, the water was warm in September, and we only saw a couple of sharks. However, other large life made up for the missing sharks, such as schools of bumphead parrotfish, squadrons of manta rays, and a few Napolean wrasses.

Great diving. Only saw one other dive boat during our two weeks on board. Stayed on the Royal Evolution. The boat was almost luxury level, but food could have been better.
