This reef is located approx. 8 miles south from Osprey reef in the Coral Sea. 330 km northeast from Cairns, Queensland. It lies some 125 km east from the Great Barrier Reef and 220 km due east from Queensland's Cape Melville. It is the northernmost reef on the Coral Sea Shelf (Queensland Plateau). Observation of ours will report schools of fusiliers, banner fish, moorish idols, and a plethera of macro photo opportunites. Clown fish, turtles, also sighted were large Silver Tips and smaller Black tip sharks. Plenty of table corals, and slopes with coral out croppings. Also sighted, stone fish and flashlight fish. Current can be a problem at this reef, as one of our dives was aborted because of the current.

i used to work on a pearl farm 2 hours north of broome in western Australia. absolutly beautiful. extrememly untouched with many islands around themainland, but on the inside of the pennensula. Quite afew aboriginal communities and no dive tours available. personal or hire boats to explore the area, salt water crocs are very common and tiger sharks :Z a good knowledge of these creatures and the area will be of great advantage aswell as poisonous jelly fish very common in the wet season. apart from the bad , diving is very rewarding and an experience.

Latitude Rock sticks a few metres out of the water. The topography above the water is pretty well replicated underwater. Depending on the time of year (and your luck) there can be plenty of grey nurse sharks about (24 April, 2010 - there were loads of sharks about). Several dive shops depart from Forster, Nick at Forster Dive Centre is who I dive with.

Montague Island is situated about 9km offshore from Narooma. Couple of operators leave Narooma to go out to Montague Island. The reason to dive here is to dive with the Australian Fur Seals. They're here all year round, but are most abundant in Spring. It isn't considered a breeding colony at present but more pups are being born each year.
