I have discovered a love for underwater photography with my Canon Powershot S400 fitted in a Canon u/w housing. I live in Los Angeles and frequently travel to exotic places around the world. The convenience of a small point and shoot camera in underwater photography more than make up for its shortcomings in my eyes. With digital cameras getting more and more sophisticated, I think that soon this will be the most predominent medium for underwater photography.
